Nicole Carroll: A one woman mission to make a name in football

Ghana fans for just one night

The elation of beating Slovenia is massively eclipsed by the knowledge that the USA goal leaves England second in the group, and now potentially will face Ghana or more likely Germany.

Although we should be reasonably pleased to have got through to the next round, all eyes will be on tonights match ups which will see the culmination of group D and our opponents for Sunday afternoon decided.

England were massively improved on the previous two matches, but to be fair, we didn’t need to play too hard to improve on the shambles we had seen before. We could have had a couple more goals for the amount of possesion we had, but a win has lifted the country somewhat, and from tonight we can look towards either a ferocious battle against the Germans, or a hard fought match with the Ghanaians to secure a match with either Mexico or Argentina. Nobody said it was going to be easy, but this could be the toughest weekend that the England team has seen in a long time. I’m excited yet horribly nervous, a bit like watching the Blues really.

Bring on tonights match, where I’ll be supporting Ghana to top the group, or I’ll be trying to work out what flaws Germany have, if any.
