Nicole Carroll: A one woman mission to make a name in football

Who is Nathaniel Clyne?

Since the signings of Valles, Foster and Zigic down at St. Andrews things have gone slightly quiet. Miccoli has  turned down a move to the club, and transfer news is not exactly forthcoming.

One name that keeps popping up though is Crystal Palace defender, Nathaniel Clyne, who has been linked to the club for around a £2 million fee. Who exactly is he though?

1) Clyne signed for Palace in a three year deal on 18th October 2008, two days after making his professional debut against Barnsley.

2) In his short time at the club, he’s scooped the 2009 and 2010 Young Player of the Year award at Crystal Palace, as well as winning FourFourTwo’s Young player of the year category.

3) Since signing for the club, Clyne has made 19 league starts for the club, scoring one goal in the process.

4) Clyne rejected the chance to join the Premier League in January, when a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers failed to materialise. Previous to this, the London Evening Standard claimed that Palace rebuffed a £5 million approach from Sunderland for the right back during last summers transfer window.

5) Former Birmingham star, Steve Claridge has described Clyne as having “all the natural material and young player needs”
