Why are World Cup songs so so awful…

with one comment

So, pop star Shakiras World Cup themed song, “Waka Waka” has failed to impress in South Africa, according to The Telegraph. No suprise really, it is truly awful.

Similarly, star Akon has recorded his own World Cup ditty, entitled “Oh Africa”. A song which I don’t think will be remembered past August, let alone go down in history as a classic.

Why do stars think that the World Cup is some sort of Top of the Pops? When it comes to the end of the final, people are going to be interested in who won the thing, not the theme tune to the whole event. Truly iconic songs such as Three Lions, get a following with individual nations. A song aimed at the audience of the whole World Cup just isn’t going to catch on.

  1. Perhaps we should create an “anti World Cup Song” called ‘Why are World Cup songs so so awful…’ It’s got to be a better title than “Waka Waka” (Copyright Timmy Mallet)
