Nicole Carroll: A one woman mission to make a name in football

D-Day – We shall fight them on the pitch

I have, myself, full confidence that if all our boys do their duty, if no ball is neglected, and if the best team formations are picked, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once again able to defend our Birmingham name, to ride out the storm of the Aston infidels, and to outlive the menace of O’Neill, if necessary for many seasons, if necessary forever.

At any rate, that is what we are going to try to do. That is the resolve of Alex McLeish, every player in that squad, Carson Yeung and the chinese revolution and the best fans in all the land.

Birmingham City and the Premier Legue, linked together in their cause and in their need, will defend to the death their reputation against the claret and blue, aiding each other like good comrades to the best of their ability, to rid the league of the filth.

Even though turf may have to be replaced and Doug Ellis may have fallen, we shall prevent young Brummie football fans from supporting them by showing our spirit: we shall not flag or fail.

We shall go on to the end, we shall score in the vein of Stern John,
we shall fight on with crunching tackles from Ferguson and Bowyer,
we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air; we will send on Phillips to finish the job
we shall fight in the defence, with King Roger and Prince Scott
we shall fight for all those lost balls
we shall fight for those freekicks and elusive penalties,
we shall fight for the reputation for the greatest team in Birmingham;
we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this club went seasons without a win against the Vile, then our Empire beyond the borders of Solihull and the area of Birmingham, would carry on the struggle, until, in good time, Birmingham will consolidate the place as the Midlands Premier club and send those from B6 running for the hills.
