Nicole Carroll: A one woman mission to make a name in football

Title race twists and turns

It was a quiet day in the Premier League yesterday (ignoring Birmingham’s hammering obvious;y), with 0-0’s filling the score sheets and leaving us with a goalless weekend. Despite the fact that we were lacking in goals, the drama was still there, with Manchester United’s Alex Ferguson admitting that the 0-0 draw yesterday has now left them trailing in the Premier League title race.

With Chelsea being out of Premier League action this weekend, facing Villa in the FA Cup semi final, Manchester United had the chance to put the pressure on the blues. Although the result leaves them only one point behind the leaders, Chelsea have a game in hand on United, and face Bolton tomorrow night and could potentially go four points clear with four games to go.

Rooney’s injury has quite obviously been a massive blow to United, as top scorer with 26 goals this season, Rooney has notched up the points for the reds. After limping out of the midweek European defeat, no one will expect Rooney to take any further part in this season, and somebody needs to step up to the mantle and start pushing Chelsea to take this title out of their hands. Manchester United will be waiting for Chelsea to drop the points, but at the same time, they need to be creating their own luck by the players stepping up to the plate.
