Nicole Carroll: A one woman mission to make a name in football

Diddy for Palace?

In a very strange piece of news today, The Sun is claiming that superstar rapper, P Diddy aka Sean Coombes is looking to buy the London club who went into administration.

According to the paper, he likes the name of the club and wants to bankroll a return to the Premier League.

Owning a club is all well and good, but I’m not sure choosing a club according to their “cool name” is the way to go about purchasing a football club. A football club is not a toy. It’s a damn hard business, and as many have discovered, if you haven’t got a full grip on the finances, that toy will quickly run away from you leaving you in trouble.

If he believes that football is a business where he is going to earn money and admiration, then he has another thing coming. Clubs like Palace are going to need millions to plug gaps, with little short term return, and the minute something goes wrong, you are enemy number one with the fans. Stick to the records Diddy.
