Nicole Carroll: A one woman mission to make a name in football

Another nail in Portsmouth’s coffin

In what might now be an end for the time being in this saga, Portsmouth have finally been deducted 9 points following HMRC dropping the case to challenge the clubs administration.

Portsmouth are still bottom of the table, but are now 17 points adrift of safety, with 9 games left to play. It should only be a matter of a few games before it becomes mathematically impossible for them to stay up, and will seal their relegation to the Championship.

Although they may be struggling badly in the league, Portsmouth are still involved in the FA Cup competition. However, they have been told that even if they win, they will not be allowed to compete in Europe next season.

Portsmouth face Hull at the weekend, who today have announced Iain Dowie as their new manager until the end of the season.
